This 1954 Jaguar XK120 is a left-hand drive roadster that was sold new in Los Angeles to the husband of television and film actress Lenore Kingston, who reportedly kept it until 1964. The car later moved to Ohio, though further history is unclear until it was purchased by the seller's father in 1992 as an abandoned project without a drivetrain. A body-off refurbishment was eventually performed and completed four years ago, including new paint in the original color, a fresh interior and top, refinishing of the frame and running gear, and installation of a replacement 3.4-liter inline-six and 4-speed manual gearbox. The car is offered on behalf of the seller's father with a BMIHT certificate, memorabilia, and a clean Ohio title in the name of the seller's father.
The refurbishment included a repaint in original Pastel Blue and was performed on and off over an 8-year period ending in fall 2014 by a restorer in Canton, Ohio, who had carried out several previous projects for the seller's father. The seller notes that the hood gaps are off as shown in the photos below. Painted knock-off wire wheels are mounted with wide-whitewall bias ply tires.
New glass was installed in the windshield frames and blue soft top. A set of unrestored original fender mirrors is included but not currently mounted. The windshield washer system is missing its jar and is described as inoperable.
Interior work consisted of fresh blue upholstery, period-style carpeting, and new wiring. A single 12-volt battery replaces the stock twin 6-volt setup behind the seats. Factory Smiths instrumentation includes a 140 mph speedometer and a reverse-sweep tachometer that was rebuilt by Nisonger Instruments in 2017.
Lights, indicators, and gauges are reported to work aside from the clock and oil pressure gauge, which is said to remain inaccurate despite several repair attempts. The odometer shows just under 90k miles, with total chassis miles unknown. Approximately 250 miles have been added since completion of the refresh in 2014. The seller notes that the floor-mounted headlight dimmer switch is an incorrect part.
A replacement 3.4-liter "S" type twin-cam six was sourced from a 1953 XK120 and overhauled along with the 4-speed manual transmission and differential. The engine is equipped with twin SU carburetors. A service in May 2018 included a new starter solenoid and turn signal flasher, as well as an oil change using high-zinc Lucas oil.
The seller notes several incorrect hoses, clamps, and fasteners underhood.
Underbody photos are provided to show condition of the frame, running gear, and stainless exhaust. The rubber bushings on the steering pin assemblies are said to have worn prematurely, and several ball joint and tie rod boots are cracked and leaking grease. The 4-wheel drum brakes are described as fair, and brake fluid leaks are pictured at the rear axle tube and front backing plates. The leaks have since been repaired according to the seller.
The British Motor Industry Heritage Certificate lists the first owner as Kingston's husband in addition to showing the original colors and drivetrain numbers. The whereabouts of the original drivetrain are unknown, while the body and chassis match between the certificate and data plate.
The car is sold with a picture, plate, and letter from Kingston's stepdaughter, as well as a California license plate from her ownership. Spares include the original Lucas starter solenoid, turn signal flasher, ignition coil, and oil pressure gauge lines. A reproduction tire pump is also supplied, though the seller notes the absence of a tool kit or grease gun. A spreadsheet itemizes a partial list of work completed during the refurbishment.
Sold for USD $69,500

This 1954 Jaguar XK120 roadster was sold new in Los Angeles to the husband of television and film actress Lenore Kingston, who is believed to have kept it until 1964. Chassis 675718 was later purchased by a prior owner in Ohio as an abandoned project in 1992 before undergoing a multi-year rotisserie refurbishment completed in the fall of 2014 and being sold on BaT in June 2018. Refinished in Pastel Blue with a Dark Blue soft top over replacement blue leather upholstery, the car is powered by a 3.4-liter inline-six “SE” type inline-six that was sourced from a 1953 XK120 along with the four-speed manual gearbox. Acquired by the selling dealer in 2026, this XK120 roadster is now offered in California with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace certificate, correspondence from Jaguar Cars Inc, refurbishment records, and an Arizona title.
An amateur radio operator, Kingston can be seen sporting a headset in the photo with her car above. The car is fitted with a ham radio antenna and wears a black California plate with Kingston’s call sign, “W6NAZ.”
Correspondence from Jaguar Cars Inc. circa 1993 lists the first owner as Kingston’s husband in addition to showing the original colors and identification numbers.
The rotisserie refurbishment was performed by a restorer in Canton, Ohio, on and off over an eight-year period ending in fall 2014. Work involved removing the body from the chassis, repainting the car, re-trimming the interior, installing a rebuilt replacement engine and gearbox, and overhauling the chassis and running gear. A collection of photos taken at various stages of the process will come with the car.
The car is finished in Pastel Blue with a Dark Blue convertible top and features a split front windshield, chrome bumperettes, and polished dual exhaust outlets. The windshield and soft top glass were also replaced in the course of the project. The windshield washer system is missing its jar and is thus inoperative. The hood gaps are not consistent.
The 16” wire wheels are secured by twin-ear knock-off hubs and are mounted with whitewall tires. The refurbished chassis incorporates an independent front suspension with telescopic-type hydraulic shock absorbers as well as semi-elliptical rear leaf springs and Girling hydraulic rear shock absorbers. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel drums. The steering pin assembly bushings as well as several of the ball-joint and tie-rod boots are worn.
The re-trimmed cabin features blue leather upholstery complemented by a color-coordinated cabin surround, dashboard, door panels, and carpets. Amenities include a dashboard-mounted rearview mirror, a passenger-side grab handle, and door map pockets. The car was rewired as part of the refurbishment and features a single 12-volt battery in place of the stock twin 6-volt setup behind the seats.
A four-spoke steering wheel fronts centrally mounted Smiths instrumentation including a reverse-sweep 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset analog clock as well as a 140-mph speedometer and auxiliary gauges. The tachometer was rebuilt by Nisonger Instruments in 2017. The prior listing notes that the the floor-mounted headlight dimmer switch is an incorrect part and that the clock and oil-pressure gauge are inoperative. The five-digit odometer shows 90k miles, less than 20 of which have been added since the June 2018 auction. Total mileage is unknown.
A replacement 3.4-liter “SE” type twin-cam inline-six was sourced from a 1953 XK120 and overhauled before being installed as part of the project. The engine breathes through twin SU carburetors. The previous listing notes several incorrect hoses, clamps, and fasteners underhood.
A replacement four-speed manual gearbox was installed and the rear axle was overhauled as part of the refurbishment process.
The Arizona title carries a “Not Actual Mileage” notation.
