    Comments from the dealer

Jaguar XK120 1954 FHC. It is one of the most beautiful and desirable cars Jaguar ever produced. Less than a quarter of all XK120 production were Fixed Head Coupe, so to find an original FHC is becoming rare. This car offered for sale was produced for the American market on 4 March 1954 and dispatched to HORNBURGS of LOS ANGELES USA on 9 April 1954. This is a matching number 3.4 ltr manual LHD car still retaining its matched cylinder head number to the original block number and all verified by a Jaguar Heritage Certificate. Originally delivered in Pastel Blue with Red interior but later changed to Opalescent Pastel Green with Suede Green trim, which was also an original colour combination of that year. November 1988 the car was bought from a small car sales yard in ENGLEWOOD DENVER COLORADO and shipped to Perth West Australia by Terry McGrath, author and respected authority on XK Jaguars. The car appears in his book, 'The Jaguar XK120 in the Southern Hemisphere'. In 1989 this very sound and original car entered the private collection of Speedway Champion Charlie West, who being a fastidious car enthusiast, rebuilt much of the mechanicals including the engine, brakes, clutch and at the same time a full body professional respray was carried out. It remained in his collection for 16 years during which time it only travelled 1460 miles, the car then passed on to current owner in 2005 having seen it on display at Motors. In 2006, and continuing its restoration, the gearbox and engine mounts were replaced, SU carburettors overhauled, replaced ball joints and sway bar bushes, new radiator fabricated using original tanks, replaced all cooling system hoses, fitted an electric thermostatically controlled cooling fan and a Le Mans style fuel filler cap. In 2008 using the correct leather and carpet, a full interior re-trim, including boot compartment, was carried out by the renound and award winning classic car upholsterer, Ian Brown of Alltrim. Whilst the car is currently fitted with 15' chrome wire wheels and SU pancake style air filters, the original 16' colour coded wire wheels are still with the car along with the correct air filter system. The body is beautifully straight with a very accurate panel fit and drives superbly. A truly magnificent looking original masterpiece that has only done 3933 miles in the last 20 years and 5393 miles in the last 37years!! Despite its low mileage, the car is still regularly serviced and run as part of a private collection. 2007 concours winning car is for the discerning buyer who has a passion for rare classics and comes with its own appropriate registration number for a local WA buyer.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
