This Jaguar XK120 SE roadster was manufactured on 2nd July 1953 and sold to its first owner H J Ryman Ltd of Great Portland Street, London W11 via Henlys, London. It is one of only 1,175 right-hand drive examples out of a total of 7,612 XK120 open roadsters built. The original colour scheme was cream with biscuit/red interior and fawn convertible hood. Nothing else is known of the XK's early history although there is an affixed plaque stating that the car was restored by Swallow Engineering of Basildon, Essex, and four others recording its attendance at International XK Days in the 1980s. There are photographs on file of the car undergoing restoration and of it 'before paintwork' (undated).

It late owner purchased 'NYF 312' on 4th June 2014 from a widow selling on behalf of her husband, who had been a motor industry professional. The late owner died in October 2016 and the car was left to his wife, who gifted it to her daughter (the current vendor) on 28th November 2017. We are advised that Spax adjustable shock absorbers and new wheel cylinders are fitted at the front. The car has been kept garaged since its acquisition in 2014 and SORN'd for the last few years. Accompanying paperwork includes a BMIHT Certificate; DVLA documents; a V5C Registration Certificate; and Oselli receipts for work done following 'inspection and report' when the car was purchased in 2014.

This particular example is a very original older restoration which has been very well preserved and has clearly had a pampered life!This is a relatively rare Special Equipment model and is one of just 1175 right hand drive cars. It remains in its original colour scheme of cream with a biscult and red leather interior. A SE model was treated to a higher performance engine tune with higher lift cams, dual exhaust system and a modified cylinder head to raise the power output. In addition these cars were fitted with wire wheels and a dual exhaust system. The condition of this car remains excellent. The body work presents as an older restoration with various minor age related issues such as a few dings and some minor cracking in one area. The chromework has some pitting but again is in overall nice condition. The bodywork appears to be corrosion free and overall looks very presentable indeed, the perfect condition for a car that can be used without worry. The interior is also in excellent condition and apart from the odd scuff the seats are in fine condtion as are the carpets which still look relatively new. The dashboard condition is also very good indeed. The car comes with wet weather gear to include both sidescreens, tonneau and a frame and hood attached. They are all showing their age and we have not tested the frame on the car or whether they are water resistant. The underside of the car looks to be in good order with a painted chassis. The history file includes a heritage certificate which we believe shows the car to be a matching numbers example. There is one discrepancy where the last digit on the engine number states 8 instead of 9 as per the number shown on the engine and we suspect this was down to a typo error when the car was logged at the time of manufacture. In a world where the digital age did not exist and handwriting was relied upon these errors did occur. Everything else appears to match the VIN plate on the car. There are various invoices in the file including one for 2022 showing the car was treated to a new aluminimum fuel tank. The engine runs beautifully and the car pulls well with good oil pressure showing. The exhaust note is fantastic!Overall, this is well sorted car that really doesn't need for anything apart from the usual ongoing maintenance. If you are seeking an XK120 this one provides excellent value for money compared to what else is on the market in our view.
