This 1953 Jaguar XK120 is a Fixed Head Coupe that was acquired by the seller in 1981 and was refurbished in 1995. The car has been refinished in black over beige leather and is powered by a 3.4-liter inline-six linked with a Jaguar XKE full-synchromesh four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes dual SU H8 carburetors, a stainless-steel exhaust system, front disc brakes, chrome 16” wire wheels with knock-off hubs, burl wood trim, a Mallory ignition system, and Smiths gauges. This XK120 Fixed Head Coupe is now offered with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, the removed gearbox and other spare parts, the owner’s manual, service records, a car cover, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.

Finished from the factory in Dove Grey, the car was repainted black in 1995. Exterior equipment includes a split front windshield, chrome front bumpers, chrome rear bumperettes, and a polished exhaust outlet. The seller notes an accident that involved damage to one of the headlight areas, and the windshield washer pump and reservoir are missing.

Chrome 16” wire wheels feature knock-off hubs and are mounted with Vredestein Classic tires measuring 185R16. The car was factory equipped with an independent front suspension with telescopic-type hydraulic shock absorbers as well as semi-elliptical rear leaf springs and Girling hydraulic rear shock absorbers. Stopping power is provided by front discs and rear drums.

The cabin was reupholstered in 1995 in beige leather. Amenities include burl wood trim, lap belts, a heater, a slide-out storage tray, door map pockets, and a dashboard-mounted rearview mirror. The seller notes that the driver’s window sticks.

The four-spoke steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation including a 140-mph speedometer, a reverse-sweep 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset analog clock, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer has rolled over and shows 24k miles, and approximately 100k miles were added under current ownership. The analog clock is not functional.

The 3.4-liter DOHC inline-six features dual SU H8 carburetors and was factory rated at 160 horsepower. A replacement non-C-type cylinder head was installed in 2019, per the seller, and the electrical system has been converted to a 12-volt negative ground setup. A Mallory ignition system is also installed.

A full-synchromesh four-speed manual transmission is said to have been sourced from a Jaguar XKE and was installed in 1995, and the removed unit is included in the sale. A stainless-steel exhaust system has been added.

The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate lists the factory colors, serial numbers, and a build date of March 26, 1953.

The car is titled using engine number W80008S shown on the plate, which also lists chassis number S681008.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
