www.goodingco.com/vehicle/1956-jaguar-xk140-drophead-coupe/

Auction description:

1956 Jaguar XK140 Drophead Coupe

Scottsdale 2015

Estimate: $200,000 - $250,000 | Without Reserve

Chassis: 818594

This 1956 Jaguar XK140 Drophead Coupe continues to benefit from a 1999 restoration performed by award-winning Jaguar marque specialist Ralph Miller of York, Pennsylvania's Olde York Classics. The work was commissioned by the Jaguar's then-owner Dr. Bruce Rudin of Wilmington, Delaware. The frame-of process was completed over the next five years with virtually no expense spared. Following completion, desirable upgrades for enhanced drivability included the installation of a five-speed BMW M5 manual gearbox, four-wheel disc brakes, stainless exhaust, electronic ignition, Aston Martin rack and pinion steering, an aluminum radiator and electric fan, dual-circuit brake master cylinder, and 2″ carburetors. Interior work was performed by the UK Jaguar coach-trimming specialists at Suffolk and Turley, and the interior woodwork refinished by Vintage Restorations. Plating was done by Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance® winners The Finishing Touch. The balanced and blueprinted engine is reported by the consignor, a respected collector, to produce an estimated 240 hp, providing a noteworthy boost over factory specification. As offered, this Jaguar is ready to deliver an unforgettable top-down experience with its classic styling and thoughtfully upgraded mechanicals.

Chassis number 818594, features exquisite restoration from the 2000s and is equipped with an upgraded 5-speed manual transmission. Balanced and blueprinted, the 3,442cc DOHC inline six-cylinder engine reportedly produces 240bhp. XK140s that left the factory in SE specification with the C-type head such as this, use the 'S' chassis prefix.

The car is finished in timeless silver metallic over dark blue leather upholstery and matching carpeting. The interior and exterior condition remain exceptional, and interior wood trim shows no signs of fading or cracking. Its matching blue soft top is equally presented in excellent condition. Paint protection film is installed on the front and side skirts. This Jaguar XK140 DHC runs and drives wonderfully, having benefitted from freshly rebuilt carburetors and mindful regular use and maintenance.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
