1957 Jaguar XK 150 Fixed Head Coupe Project

Estimate A$16,000 - A$18,000

Donington Auctions - Online, Australia

31 August - 13 September, 2026

Lot 72

Opportunity knocks

Chassis number: S824692DN

Body number: J9583

Engine number: KF9408

Head number: DH438

As noted in “The Jaguar XK in Australia” book by John Elmgreen and Terry McGrath (page 128), this car was dispatched from the factory to Scottish distributor Richies of Glasgow on 5 December 1958, this XK150’s early history is unknown until its first registration in Victoria in June 1965.

Thereafter it was registered to owners in Ballarat, East Melbourne and Fitzroy through to 1985, when it was purchased as a complete and running car by our vendor.

Enjoyed for several decades as a weekend toy, the vendor explained that the Jaguar was taken off the road around 20 years ago for a professional restoration.

Taken back to bare metal, rust repairs were undertaken along with the fitment of a spare wheel tray and curved extension (sourced from Martin Robey in the UK). Also purchased but not yet fitted, new front valences, battery boxes and covers are supplied with the car.

Unfortunately, ill health saw the restoration stall and today the Jaguar is in pieces, finished in primer.

According to the vendor, the XK150 FHC is complete mechanically and all the glass is there, except the windscreen. Likewise, inside the seats are there but the rest of the interior trim is incomplete. The odometer is indicating 56,050 miles. The engine currently fitted is believed to be from a 3.4 MKI saloon with 3.4 XK head. The gear box (OSL4271, 4sp Moss box) is believed to be from a late XK120/140 or MKVII.

This is quite clearly a project, one for the dedicated and experienced Jaguar enthusiast, or even another professional restorer, with the expertise to pull it all together.

It’s an opportunity, too, to build an XK150 FHC to your personal specifications or to restore it back to factory original – potentially as a show stopping concours contender.

Whatever the direction this project takes, this lovely 1958 Jaguar XK150 deserves the chance to ride the highways again.

The 1958 Jaguar XK150 FHC is being sold here unregistered and at No Reserve.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
